How to move a Baby Grand Piano

Please be advise that any information used from this website by you will be used at your own risk

In the old fashioned way piano movers lift one corner of the safe by hand, risking their backs and the piano, while one of them remove that corner leg.

Next they lower the corner of the piano without leg, on the floor, risking to damage the piano lacca and forcing the rermaining legs.

We use a “way less muscle” approach. We use a pair of hydraulic jacks to raise the piano horizontally and then, the 3 piano legs are safely removed.

After the piano be lowered by the jacks it can safely be tilted on it’s side over the piano board.

After the piano is sit on a strong and stable cart to be wheeled by an electric winch up to our truck.

Below follows our work sequence:

01-We box up the piano bench in a big box along with the piano music.

02-We protect the flooring against scratches with moving pads, once we will have to shift the piano for disassembling and wrapping.

03-A piano should never be moved with the piano lid on, so we remove it and wrap with moving pads and shrink wrap.

04-We remove the lid hinges from the body of the piano to avoid damaging pressure when the piano is on it’s side position.

05-The piano lyre is removed.

06-Next the body of the piano is completely padded and shrink wrapped.

07-Under the piano we place our hidraulic jacks and raise it to remove the piano legs safely.

08-Next we lower the piano horizontally and tilt it over the piano board and strapped with heavy duty tie-downs.

09-Card board is placed protecting the piano under parts and shrink wrapped around with the tie-down straps.

10-The piano board is put on a strong and stable cart and wheeled to the truck.

The assembling operation is basically the reverse of the disassembling.
